Installation & components

  1. How do I install NBC Olympics On The Go?
    1. Go to the NBC Olympics On The Go installation page.
    2. Select the Download Now button.
    3. In the File Download dialog, select 'Save' and save the OlympicSetup.exe file to your desktop.
    4. Once the download completes, select 'Run' in the File Download dialog. (If you see a security warning, select 'Run' again in the warning dialog box.)
    5. The installer will launch; follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. How do I uninstall NBC Olympics On The Go?
    1. Open the Windows Control Panel (Start > Control Panel).
    2. Select 'Uninstall a program' under the Programs heading.
    3. Double-click 'TVTonic With NBC Olympics' in the resulting list.
    4. Select 'Next' in the resulting Installer dialog box.
    5. In the next screen select the 'Remove' radio button, then select 'Next.'
    6. In the next window, you can select to 'Keep TVTonic account open' if you are planning to reinstall the software. Or, if you can select 'Close TVTonic account.' Important: if you select 'Close TVTonic account' all video downloaded by NBC Olympics On The Go will be deleted from your hard drive.
    7. Select 'Next' after you've decided.
    8. Select 'Remove' in the next screen and the software will be removed from your computer.
  3. What are the system requirements?
  4. Is NBC Olympics On The Go available in my country?
    • NBC Olympics On The Go is available only in the United States.
  5. Why does NBC Olympics On The Go install TVTonic?
    • NBC Olympics On The Go runs atop the TVTonic software. TVTonic is the engine that powers the NBC Olympics On The Go service. You can use TVTonic to watch a world of Internet TV. Just select the TVTonic Internet TV button above the My Channels menu in NBC Olympics On The Go to get started.
  6. What is the TVTonic RSS service?
    • The TVTonic RSS service runs in the background managing your subscriptions, updating your channels, keeping an eye on disk usage, downloading new content, etc.
  7. Why is there a TVTonic icon in my taskbar's notification area?
    • This TVTonic icon has two main functions:
      1. Use it to launch the TVTonic Control Panel. The TVTonic Control Panel has lots of features including a download monitor, a scheduler, a bandwidth throttler and more.
      2. You'll see notices from the icon when new content is available.
  8. Where are the videos stored?
    • If you accepted the defaults when installing the software, the videos will be stored here:
      [start disk]:\ProgramData\Wavexpress\TVTonic\Cache
      Your start disk is usually the 'C' drive.
    • Otherwise, the files are stored in the TVTonic\Cache folder in the location you chose during installation.
  9. I'm a TVTonic 3.2 user, will I need to upgrade?
    • Yes. NBC Olympics On The Go requires TVTonic 3.3 in order to work. Running the NBC Olympics On The Go installer will upgrade TVTonic automatically.

Using the software

  1. How do I add/remove channels?
    • To add channels:
      1. Open the channel guide by selecting the Browse Guide button in the Navigation menu located in the upper right (show the Navigation menu by selecting the up arrow on your remote or mousing over the top area of the screen).
      2. Highlight a channel button and select it or select the left-arrow while it's highlighted. It will slide to the left revealing details about the channel, including a short description and the 'Add To My Channels' button.
      3. Select the 'Add To My Channels' button. The text will change to 'Remove From My Channels' and a small checkmark will appear on the channel button.
      4. The channel has now been added to your My Channels menu and, if there is content available, the videos will start downloading.
    • To remove channels:
      • Following the instructions above, you can find your currently subscribed channels (look for the checkmarks) and select the 'Remove From My Channels' button to remove the channel. NOTE: this will delete all the video downloaded for that channel.
      • You can also remove the channel via the channel button in the My Channels menu:
        1. Highlight a channel button in the My Channels menu and left-arrow into the channel's item menu.
        2. Select 'Channel Settings' at the top of the menu to open that channel's settings menu.
        3. Select the 'Unsubscribe Channel' button.
  2. How do I download videos?
    • Once you've added a channel to My Channels, videos in that channel will download automatically as long as your computer is on and connected to the Internet. If there is content available when you subscribe, it will start downloading right away or very soon. If there is no content available it will download automatically when it becomes available.
    • If you woold like to download specific videos, follow these steps:
      1. Open the My Channels menu and left-arrow into a channel.
      2. Then, left-arrow into a clip you'd like to watch to show that clip's Item Menu.
      3. If the clip hasn't been downloaded, you'll see a 'download now' button. Select it to start downloading the clip right away.
    • Important: you must leave your computer ON and CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET in order to receive updates automatically.
  3. Why can't I watch videos?
    • Did you subscribe to channels by adding them to the My Channels menu? If not, follow the instructions above to do so. Once you've added channels, videos will start to download automatically.
  4. Why do channels in the My Channels menu say they are pending?
    • This means that the channel hasn't synced with our servers on the Internet yet. To fix this problem, follow these steps:
      1. Highlight a channel button in the My Channels menu and left-arrow into the channel.
      2. Select 'Channel Settings' at the top of the menu to open that channel's settings menu.
      3. Select the 'Refresh Channel' button to sync the channel with our servers.
      4. Note: sometimes there can be problems with Internet connectivity, if your channel continues to be pending, wait a bit and the problem should clear up.
  5. How do I delete videos?
    • To delete individual clips:
      1. Open the My Channels menu and left-arrow into a channel.
      2. Then, left-arrow into the video that you'd like to delete to show the Item Menu.
      3. Select the 'delete item' button to delete the video.
    • To delete multiple clips:
      1. Highlight a channel button in the My Channels menu and left-arrow into the channel.
      2. Select 'Channel Settings' at the top of the menu to open that channel's settings menu.
      3. Choose the 'Select Items to Delete' button.
      4. In the next menu, you can 'Mark All' to select every item in the channel or select individual clips to mark them for deletion.
      5. Once all items are marked that you would like to delete, select the 'Delete All Marked' button at the top of the menu.
    • Note: You can delete items that haven't downloaded yet if you don't wish to download them.
  6. How much disk space will I need?
    • We suggest that you allot at least .5GBs (500MBs) of disk space per subscribed channel.
    • However, each channel you add has a cache size limit of 1.5GBs as the default. This cache size is adjustable, see below for instructions.
  7. How do I manage my disk space or adjust the disk space that channels use?
    1. Highlight a channel button in the My Channels menu and left-arrow into the channel's item menu.
    2. Select 'Channel Settings' at the top of the menu to open that channel's settings menu.
    3. Choose the 'Cache Settings.'
    4. In the resulting menu, highlight the bar graph and move the red indicator left or right to lower or increase the cache size for that channel. Watch the 'allocated' section above the graph for how much disk space you are allocating.
    5. Select 'Save' to commit the cache setting for that channel.
    6. Please note that there is a minimum of 250MBs (.2GBs) for each channel.
  8. How do I manage downloads?
    • To schedule when downloads occur, or to globally disable all downloads initiated by the software, open the TVTonic Control Panel and choose the Download Options tab.
      1. You must use a keyboard and mouse at your PC to use the TVTonic Control Panel.
      2. Double-click the TVTonic icon in the taskbar notification area to open the TVTonic Control Panel.
    • To disable downloads for a particular channel:
      1. Highlight a channel button in the My Channels menu and left-arrow into the channel's item menu.
      2. Select 'Channel Settings' at the top of the menu to open that channel's settings menu.
      3. Choose the 'Disable Downloads' button.
      4. To enable downloads, return to the menu and choose the 'Enable Downloads' button.
  9. Does the software support International Languages?
    • We currently only support American English versions of Microsoft Windows though many users have reported it working on their international versions. We attempt to support international versions of Microsoft Windows but cannot guarantee it. If you are running into a problem on your international version, contact us and we will try to resolve the problem.
  10. How does NBC Olympics On The Go work with the Xbox 360 or other Extender for Windows Media Center?
    • You can't install the software from your Xbox 360 or other Extender. Otherwise, the experience is identical to the experience on your PC.
    • If you're using an Xbox 360 as an Extender for Windows Media Center, you'll want to turn on the Advanced Extender Support. Find this in the Settings section. If you're using an Extender other than an Xbox, give it a try, it could improve graphical display. If you turn it on and notice problems with video display, you'll need disable it.
  11. Can different users subscribe to different channels?
    • No. The software isn't multi-user. If one user subscribes to a channel, all users will be subscribed to that channel.

  2. When will I be able to view content?
    • Select US Team Track & Field and Swimming trial coverage is available starting July 26th, continuing until the 2008 Beijing Games begin.
    • US women's and men's preliminary soccer matches will be available shortly after their August 6th and 7th broadcast airings.
    • The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games officially begin on August 8 and coverage (including Opening Ceremonies) will begin shortly thereafter.
  3. How much coverage will I receive of every event?
    • Most of the included events are going to receive extensive coverage of the US teams and athletes. For example, you'll recieve full basketball, soccer, beach volleyball and softball games. Including medal games if the US is up for a medal.
    • Plus, you'll receive hours of coverage for other sports including preliminaries, qualifiers, finals and medal matches. Up to 12 hours of events every day!
    • Note that all coverage estimates are subject to change at the discretion of NBC Olympics.
  4. Will I receive coverage of [insert sport name here]?
  5. When should I subscribe to my favorite events?
    • We recommend that viewers set up their subscriptions in advance to automatically receive events as they become available. Viewers will also be able to subscribe at any time during the games.
