Hotfix for Windows XP biometric users

Problem:

A vulnerability exists in the biometric authentication to Windows® XP for users of certain versions of Wave ESC / ETS and Dell ControlPoint (DCP) applications. This issue only affects users who have biometric authentication set up for Windows® logon when their computer is locked or has returned from standby or hibernation.

Solution:

As this vulnerability only affects users when their computer is locked or has returned from standby or hibernation, any user who is using biometrics to log on should either power down their computer when they are done using it or log off of Windows, until they have applied the hotfix.
  1. Download and install the following hotfix: ETS_Hotfix_P17202_4. Note that this hotfix can be installed on both 32 and 64 bit systems.
  2. Reboot the computer. You MUST reboot after installing the hotfix for the changes to take effect. Note that you do not have to disable or change any of your Windows logon settings to install the patch.
  3. It is GPO deployable and in this case, it will be installed silently.
Note: DCP users also have the option of upgrading to DCP 1.4.4, which will also correct this issue. This version of DCP is now available from http://support.dell.com.
